The Game UN:Me: A Cerebral Thriller Merging Survival Horror with Social Deduction Gameplay

The latest Day of the Devs digital showcase unveiled several fascinating future games, but one especially has seized attention: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player adventure appears to fuse together the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill title with the suspicion-driven heart of Among Us.

"It's a unique game where a girl harboring several personalities inside her needs to flee from a maze of the mind," states producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Shattered Mind

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed heroine who appears to be of high school age. Inside her reside four distinct souls, all possessing their own fears and motivations. These souls can seize control at will, unleashing their deep-seated phobias upon her suddenly.

Based on revealed gameplay, much of the action takes place within a eerie medical facility, while additional clips show the protagonist exploring a desolate church.

A World of Personal Horror

"What makes you fearful of? What makes you uneasy?" poses creative lead Shun Sasaki. "High places. Small rooms. Authority figures. Things that seem trivial to others can trigger a deep instinct within us. This game explores that idea — fears that are specific to every individual."

The core mechanic involves managing the persona that emerges at a particular time. However, these identities will switch against your will during gameplay. During exploration, each soul's anxieties become amplified and assault the girl one after another. As the persona shifts, so does the specific fear the player encounters.

Unsettling Aesthetics and a Deadly Choice

Initially, UN:Me shares striking aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill franchise. The setting is populated by nurses who all share the same face, with unnervingly wide grins. Patients in the lobby have large flowers growing from their heads are. Flowers are an ever-present theme, contrasting organic elegance with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me presents a singular mechanic. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four souls inhabiting the protagonist is the "real" one. "All four personas claims that the body is rightfully them," explains a creator. "During the game, you must determine who is authentic."

Once players believes a persona is an impostor, they must eliminate it. But, since each soul can deceive or obfuscate the truth, it is very easy to choose incorrectly.

"Maybe you've already eliminated the real [soul] by your own actions," a voice suggests. "The last one remaining could be a fake. In any case, your choices are final."

UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed launch window, but it is available to wishlist on platforms.
