Alpine star Lindsey Vonn asserts she will be "in a good place" for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, on the back of claiming a podium spot for the fourth time in five World Cup races. The 41-year-old, who achieved a milestone by becoming the most senior racer to win a downhill World Cup winner, took the bronze position in the super-G in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This was her 142nd career World Cup podium finish. Impressive Performance in Val d'Isere Racing in the French Alps resort for the first time in almost a decade, Vonn finished the course in a time of one minute 20.60 seconds. She was 0.36 seconds behind winner Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson taking the runner-up spot. "I didn't quite have the right line on the initial jump," the skier commented. "Subsequently, I performed strongly. I'm pleased with my skiing today, unlike in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was not aggressive enough." This result was her second top-three finish at Val d'Isere over the weekend, having also finished third in the downhill on Saturday. An Incredible Return from Retirement Vonn stepped away from competition in February 2019 due to persistent injuries. However, she made a stunning return in late 2024 following a major knee surgery. With less than two months remaining until the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, which are scheduled for February 6th to the 22nd, Vonn's performances are highly promising. She already possesses one gold and two Olympic bronze medals in her collection and is strongly positioned to compete for the United States at the 2026 Games. "In Cortina, I will be fully ready," the athlete confirmed. Chasing More Titles Alongside her Games aspirations, Vonn is also aiming to increase the four overall crystal globes she has secured over a career spanning two decades. She currently holds a 69-point lead at the summit of the overall downhill standings and is sitting in fifth place in the overall super-G standings. This season's World Cup campaign features a nine more events taking place before the circuit finale in Norway on 21 March 2026.
